Christofle France very rare new set Gallia Sandoz silver knife rest Harrods $475
A boxed pair of silver plated Art Deco knife rests from Christofle of Paris. Originally commissioned between 1920 and 1930 by the French shipping line Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and designed by sculptor Edouard Marcel Sandoz for Maison Christofle in the Art Deco style. Sandoz’s stylized and geometric Porte-Couteaux Animaliers (animal knife rests) were popular table accessories and gifts; Christofle reproduced the Sandoz designs for the Musée Bouilhet-Christofle. These are the swan and peacock designs in their original fitted box. The set is in new condition, as is the box but the latter shows some storage wear. The knife rests measure 4.38 in. L; the box measures 5.25 in. square.Related Products
