Set of 2 herbarium and plant identification books with multiple specimens intact in each book! Books have binding issues due to age; descriptions and specimens in great condition considering antiquity. (See pictures for details).
Nelson published this how to/blank book to encourage botanical collects; books were sold all over the country. Locations mentioned indicate the compiler of this one was from Illinois. Textual material in one book contains much info on the collecting of plants, the pressing of plants, section on how to mount the plants and a glossary of botanical terms. 50 bifoliums in each, but not all used in either book. Bifoliums themselves are quite elegantly printed; the specimens are mounted to the opening page. The information asks an awful lot from the student or collector; there are 28 fields to be filled out (e.g. Family-Name-Locality-Plant-Root-Stem; Branches, etc). Compiler was diligent indeed!
