SMITHS ASTRAL ex-Royal Navy 8 day bulkhead clock with 8 inch dial, 1965
1965SMITHS was one of several companies to make clocks for the Royal Navy. The AP (Admiralty Pattern) number shown on the dial relates to a strict and detailed specification which any contracted supplier would have to comply with.
This example is in excellent original, as-found condition. Dated (1965).
The clock is driven by the renowned 8 day front-winding and front-regulating Coventry Astral 156 marine movement with a large platform escapement - one of the most robust and reliable movements available.
The flanged brass case is fronted by a solid brass bezel, which can be locked shut. This holds a thick, bevelled flat glass, behind which the white dial is in near-perfect condition. The hands are set with the knob on the right of the case; the knob to the left temporarily stops the second hand to enable precise synchronisation to a time signal.
* Works great! Still in great condition. Do not have the key but it opens and closes and stays closed without it.
